I’ve been working on some quilts for the kids in the cancer ward of Mary Bridge’s Children’s Hospital.  As hospital is no fun for kids with any reason to be in there, colorful quilts are a neat way to let them know that someone’s thinking of them, and to take their minds off of their woes.   Part of the process of creating a quilt (or quilts) is putting batting in between the layers, to give it warmth. 

At this time, I need to ask for some help in getting some batting.  I would appreciate it if it could be sent to me at:  Kathie Z., 3702 S. Fife St., #16, Tacoma, WA 98409.  I plan on showing pictures of some of the quilts that I make, and take, to Mary Bridge’s Children’s Hospital.  For participating in helping me make the quilts, you have the pleasure of knowing that you’ve helped brighten someone’s day, too.

This is something I enjoy doing for someone else.

Christmas is the day after tomorrow.  In a week’s time, it’ll be New Year’s Day… The start of a whole new year.

Even though the world seems to be in turmoil (the economy still stinks, and there’s a lot of not-so-great things going on), I’m hopeful that there’ll be a lot more good things going on to make up for it. 

Although it would be nice if our military personnel could come home from Afghanistan, Iraq, and other places of great turmoil, I’m grateful that they’re doing their jobs so that the rest of us (here in America) are safe, enjoying all of our constitutional/bill of rights freedoms.  May God watch over them, keep them safe, and help (both) them and their families through this time of general “nonsense”.

I’m hoping, that after the holiday season, that there’ll be more jobs opening up in the new year.  It seems like people are helping each other, here in the Puget Sound region a little more (i.e. food banks, etc.)… or, at least, as best they can, to counter those that need a little more help.   I hope there are more of these kinds of little “miracles”, “spirits of goodwill”, and just (general) niceness keep happening all over the place.  The world is a better place for it.

Quilting is a pretty cool craft to work on.  There are so many designs, colors, and decisions to make before getting started on one piece.  Then, once the top is done, the batting (middle) and backing is basted to the top.  From there, the quilt is tied, machine-, or hand-quilted.  Finally, it is bound to finish it off. 

I’ve never encountered an “ugly” quilt.  All are very beautiful, unique, and have a character, or life, of their own.
